The Motor City Open starts this week in Bloomfield Hills, Detroit, with Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar back to defend the title he won last year.
The Egyptian World No.9 took the victory in the final after he defeated Peru’s Diego Elias in a five-game battle, and the pair are both featuring at this year’s event.
For the second year in succession, Abouelghar will be the No.3 seed in Detroit, while Marwan ElShorbagy and Miguel Rodriguez, also former champions of the Motor City Open, in 2018 and 2015, respectively, will take part this week.
ElShorbagy won the tournament two years ago after defeating New Zealand’s Paul Coll in a 95-minute five-gamer, while the ‘Colombian Cannonball’ also needed five-games to win his Motor City title, as he beat South Africa’s Stephen Coppinger in a match that lasted 112 minutes.
Peru’s Elias will be the top seed for this event, with the World No.7 looking to add his name to the list of winners at this event, which also includes the likes of Mohamed ElShorbagy, Ali Farag, Amr Shabana, Borja Golan and Gregory Gaultier.
Play begins on Wednesday, February 5 at 16:30 local time (GMT-5), with action then taking place across the next five days.
