Challenger Tour Preview: Action Descends On Portland And Toronto

The Challenger Tour continues this week with action from North America, with events ranging from PSA Challenger 10 to PSA Challenger 20 level.

There will be two tournaments this week on the Tour, with the Assante Wealth Management Carter Classic taking place in Canada, before the Oregon Open begins a day later in Portland.

Assante Wealth Management Carter Classic
The first tournament of the week kicks off on Monday in Toronto, with the Assante Wealth Management Carter Classic featuring 16 male players all aiming to take home the PSA Challenger 10 title.

Three of the top four seeds have all reached at least the semi-finals of the this event in the past, with the No.3 seed Mario Yanez finishing runner-up in last year’s competition. Colombia’s No.4 seed Juan Camilo Vargas made it to the semis in 2019.

Home hopes will be on the shoulders of Shawn DeLierre, Michael McCue and Nick Sachvie, with the trio all seeded for the event. DeLierre is the No.2 seed, and he reached the last four in last season’s tournament.

Oregon Open
The biggest Challenger Tour event of the week will be the Oregon Open, with the PSA Challenger 20 tournament being held in Portland from Tuesday through to the final on Saturday.

After winning in Calgary on Sunday afternoon, Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinmann will be aiming to win back-to-back tournaments. He will be the No.4 seed in Oregon this week.

There will be two Americans in the top five seeds for the draw, with US No.1 Todd Harrity and US No.2 Chris Hanson both looking for glory. The former will be the No.2 seed for the tournament, and will be looking to go one better than his runner-up finish at this event in 2017, the last time it was held.
