Danielle Letourneau after her win in Calgary

WEEKEND ROUND UP: Letourneau triumphs in Calgary

Home hope Danielle Letourneau upset the form book to defeat top seed Julianne Courtice and claim the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week 2020 title.

The Canadian came from two games down to defeat the Englishwoman 7-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 in a thrilling 61-minute encounter.

No1 seed Courtice came out of the blocks quickly to take the opening two games. Her opponent then suffered a nose bleed just after coming on court to start the third game which seemed to act as a reset. Letourneau started giving Courtice the run around to force her way back into the contest, winning games three and four 11-4 and 11-5.

The final game saw some long and impressive rallies but in the end, it was the Canadian’s higher intensity and sheer drive to win that tipped the last game in her favour 11-9.
