Weekend Roundup: Letourneau Makes it Back-to-Back Titles in Canada

Canada's World No.39 Danielle Letourneau has captured a second successive PSA Tour title after beating Egypt's Menna Hamed to win the Queen City Open – the final PSA Challenger Tour event to take place until the end of April at the earliest.

Canada's World No.39 Danielle Letourneau has captured a second successive PSA Tour title after beating Egypt's Menna Hamed to win the Queen City Open – the final PSA Challenger Tour event to take place until the end of April at the earliest.

Letourneau overcame England's Julianne Courtice to win the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women's Squash Week the previous weekend and she followed that up with a 3-1 win over No.5 seed Hamed to capture the fifth PSA title of her career.

Letourneau was seeded No.2 for the tournament and began her week with victory over fellow Canadian Nicole Bunyan in round two.

A comfortable 3-0 win then followed against Finland's Emilia Soini, before the 26-year-old prevailed in a tight five-game battle with England's Anna Kimberley, coming through to win 11-6 in the decider.

Hamed had eliminated Letourneau's compatriot Nikki Todd in the semi-finals and looked on course to claim another Canadian scalp after establishing her game plan on the match to take an 11-6 victory in game one.

But Letourneau recovered to take a crucial second game 11-9, and followed that up with an 11-8 triumph in game three, before pulling through 11-4 in the fourth to win her third PSA title of the season.

The PSA Challenger Tour is now suspended with all events originally scheduled up to and including the week commencing April 27 no longer taking place during this period due to COVID-19.
