World Tour Finals: Super Serme Storms Past El Tayeb

A superlative performance from World No.3 Camille Serme saw her overcome Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb 2-0 to avenge her defeat in the Manchester Open final last week and move top of Group B in the women’s event at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals.

El Tayeb had won their last four meetings – including a 3-1 triumph in Manchester eight days ago – but Serme was on fire right from the off at Cairo’s Mall of Arabia tonight as she hit her targets with absolute precision.

World No.4 El Tayeb is regarded as one of squash’s premier shot-makers, but it was Serme who spent the 24-minute encounter showing off her skills with the racket as she attacked with aplomb and put away any loose balls presented by her opponent.

An 11-8, 11-5 victory has sent Serme to the summit of Group B on five points, one point ahead of El Tayeb and two points clear of Hania El Hammamy, who she lost to on the opening day.

That means she will qualify for the knockout semi-finals if she beats United States No.1 Amanda Sobhy in her final group fixture tomorrow evening.

“Yesterday was a pretty tough match, so today I wanted to stick to my tactical plan and I think my coach will be happy at home,” said Serme.

“I didn’t do much wrong tonight, I think, and I stuck to that plan, so I’m really happy about it.

“I will prepare [for the match about Sobhy] like I did for the other ones. I’ll have a good recovery with the physio now and will have a chat with my coach tonight and we’ll prepare for the match tomorrow with some video [analysis]. Then I’ll rest and get ready.”
