The fifth day’s play of the PSA Platinum level Qatar Classic takes place today, as the quarter-finals of the event are played at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Just eight players remain in Doha, and there will be an unseeded star in the semi-finals, as the final match of the evening sees World No.41 Youssef Ibrahim, the man who knocked out three-time champion and top seed Mohamed ElShorbagy, take on fellow countryman Fares Dessouky.
The winner of that match-up will face either World No.6 Marwan ElShorbagy or World No.5 Paul Coll. The pair will meet for the second time since the restart, having faced off in the group stages of the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals in Cairo, a tournament the former went on to win.
New World No.1 Ali Farag will take on World No.7 Diego Elias in the quarter-finals, with these two having also met at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals at the end of September. The pair have played 13 times on the PSA World Tour over the last five years.
Reigning World Champion Tarek Momen, who won his title on this court twelve months ago, will take on the rising star that is Joel Makin. The Welshman is now at World No.9, and will be looking to reach the semi-finals of a major tournament for only the second time in his career.
