Czech Pro Series 1 Preview: Gaultier and Mekbib To Meet In Final?

World No.39 Gregory Gaultier and World No.71 Daniel Mekbib are seeded to meet in the final of the Czech Pro Series 1 this week, with the Challenger 10 level tournament taking place in Prague.

The Squasclub Strahov is the venue for the event, with entries restricted to just players who currently reside in the Czech Republic, hence why the former World No.1 is in the draw this week.

Germany’s Heiko Schwarzer and England’s Robert Downer, who appeared on the first edition of ‘Challenger Chats’ with Lisa Aitken, are the other two non-Czech players in the draw for the tournament.

Gaultier will be the heavy favourite to win the title, having won on his last three outings on the PSA Challenger Tour. The Frenchman won the Expression Networks Nolan and Liam’s Tournament, in what was the first event after the six-month suspension of the tour back in September.

He has since been victorious at the Expression Networks Prague Open and the Expression Networks Enjoy Open, the latter of which was the first tournament of 2021.

He will meet Ondrej Vorlicek, the World No.371, in the opening round of the tournament, while Mekbib, who is the leading Czech player in the world, will do battle against the German Schwarzer, whose current ranking is World No.335.

The event takes place from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 in Prague, where WHO is the top seed for the tournament. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
