Egyptians Marwan ElShorbagy and Nour El Sherbini have been named the respective men’s and women’s PSA World Tour Player of the Month for March following their CIB Black Ball Squash Open victories.
ElShorbagy put together an impressive run en route to the final, knocking out the likes of New Zealand’s World No.4 Paul Coll – in one of the matches of the tournament – before ousting Wales’ Joel Makin in the semi-finals.
The Egyptian then backed up those marathon matches with victory over defending champion and compatriot Fares Dessouky in the final as he captured the second PSA Platinum title of his career following.
That win also means that ElShorbagy has risen back into the top five in the men’s World Rankings and has secured his place at the CIB World Tour Finals, where the top eight players battle it out for the title.
Nour El Sherbini celebrates her CIB Black Ball Open victory
Meanwhile, it was third time lucky for World No.1 El Sherbini as she finally got her hands on the CIB Black Ball Open trophy following runner-up finishes to Raneem El Welily in 2019 and Hania El Hammamy in 2020.
However, the four-time World Champion did not let the trophy slip away this time as she overcame USA’s Amanda Sobhy, who had knocked her out in the quarter finals of the tournament in December, 13-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7 in the final in Cairo, Egypt.
As a result El Sherbini has strengthened her position at both the top of the World Rankings and the Road to Egypt standings for the CIB World Tour Finals.
