Hungary’s Hannah Chukwu and Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong have been named the PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month for March following their impressive performances.
Chukwu is relatively new to the PSA Tour with just three PSA events under her belt, despite making her debut in 2019, for which she has never been knocked out before the semi-finals.
Last month saw her claim her maiden PSA Tour title with a 3-0 victory over Csenge Kiss-Máté at the SquashBerek Open held in Tatabanya, Hungary.
She then backed this up with a runner-up finish, despite being unseeded, at the Open des Bretzels in Mulhouse, France where she missed out on the title to France’s World No.46 Enora Villard.
Those performances have seen her rise from World No.150 in February into the top 100 and currently she sits at No.94 – her highest World Ranking to date – on the women’s tour.
Chi Him Wong with the Chairman Cup trophy
Meanwhile, Wong takes the men’s accolade following his victory at the 2021 Chairman Cup in Hong Kong, which marked his seventh PSA Tour title.
Like all events on the Challenger Tour at this time, the Chairman Cup had limited entries, with only those currently residing in Hong Kong being allowed to participate in the tournament.
The men’s final was played out between No.4 seed Wong and No.3 seed Tsz Kwan Lau, after the pair had knocked out the top two seeds for the tournament in the last four.
After dispatching No.2 seed Henry Leung in the semi-finals, Wong then took victory in the final, with a five-game victory over Lau, who sits 13 places higher in the World Rankings.
That victory has seen the Hong Kong player rise to back inside the men’s top 100 as he sits at World No.83 in April’s World Rankings.
