The semi-finals of the Odense Open saw Egypt’s Aly Hussein continues his amazing run through the tournament, as he took out another seeded player, this time to reach the final.
The tournament is the sole qualifier for the 2020-2021 PSQ World Championships, and the winner of both the men’s and women’s draw will both receive a place in the draw for the tournament at the University Club of Chicago in July.
Having already taken out No.7 seed Robert Downer in the second round, and then beating top seed Ryosei Kobayashi in the quarter-finals, the Egyptian came up against compatriot Moustafa El Sirty in the last four.
He fell behind to his fellow countryman, with El Sirty taking the first game, but Hussein fought back, winning a second game tie-break enrolee to a 3-1 victory to secure his place in the final of the tournament at Squash Center Danmark.
He will face Hungary’s Farkas Balazs after the No.6 seed defeated No.5 seed Yahya Elnawasany in their semi-final contest. Like Hussein, the Hungarian dropped the first game, but fought back to win the next three to set up the final clash with the Egyptian.
The women’s semi-finals both went to seeding, as Spain’s Cristina Gomez, the tournament’s top seed, got the better of England’s Lily Taylor in four games to secure her place in the final.
She will face Egyptian Nour Aboulmakarim, who will be in her maiden final on Tour, after she overcame Hungary’s Hannah Chukwu, with the 17-year-old having to retire through injury midway through the third game.
The finals take place on Saturday 19 June, with the action getting underway at 18:00 local time (GMT+2).
