Egyptian duo Mostafa Asal and Nouran Gohar have been named the PSA World Tour Players of the Month for June following their impressive CIB PSA World Tour Finals victories at Cairo’s Mall of Arabia.
Asal, who was making his debut at the World Tour Finals, put together a hugely impressive run during the week, topping Group A which included the likes of World No.1 Ali Farag, World No.2 Mohamed ElShorbagy and World No.5 Marwan ElShorbagy.
The 20-year-old then went on to topple World Champion Tarek Momen before conquering Mohamed in four games in the final to lift his biggest PSA title to date.
That win saw the much talked about Egyptian rise into the top 10 in the July men’s World Rankings as he now sits at World No.9.
Gohar also enjoyed success at the Mall of Arabia as she also won her first CIB PSA World Tour Finals title – becoming the sixth woman to triumph at the event – after ending El Hammamy’s title defence courtesy of an 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8 victory.
Gohar and El Hammamy were the only undefeated players left in the event across both the men’s and women’s draws coming into the final and it was 23-year-old Gohar who held her nerve to complete an unbeaten run.
The victory marked Gohar’s 10th PSA title and her first major trophy since the 2019 U.S. Open.
