Berkhamsted Linksap Open: Tournament Preview

The Berkhamsted Linksap Open is one of two English-based events on the Challenger Tour this week, with action coming from Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis & Squash Rackets Club from Thursday 29 July through to Sunday 1 August.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Challenger 10 level tournament is being held with domestic restrictions on entrants, meaning only those currently based in the United Kingdom have been allowed to enter and participate.

The women’s draw features seven members of the world’s top 100, including four players who featured at the PSA World Championships 2020-2021 in Chicago.

World No.28 Emily Whitlock leads the field, with World No.40 Lisa Aitken as her nearest contender. Ali Loke and Georgia Adderley, both participants in Chicago earlier this month, will also be in action.

The English duo of Anna Kimberley and Kace Bartley are also among the top eight seeds, with the third Scot, in Alison Thompson, and Pakistan’s Faiza Zafar. She is joined by Dutchwoman Sanne Veldkamp and Italy’s Bruna Marchesi Petrillo as the three foreign players in the women’s event.

Once again, one to watch from an unseeded standpoint will be the rising Georgina Kennedy. The young Englishwoman has won four tournaments since the start of the summer, and she will be aiming to make it five this week.

England’s Ben Coleman is the top seed in the men’s event, with Portugal’s Rui Soares, Scotsman Rory Stewart and Ireland’s Sean Conroy giving the top four seeds a multi-national feel.

The English quartet of Connor sheen, Joshua Masters, Tom Walsh and Sam Todd make up the rest of the top eight seeds, while Brazil’s Vini Rodrigues is the only other foreign player in the draw.

The event takes place from Thursday 29 July to Sunday 1 August at the Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis & Squash Rackets Club. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.

Action from Berkhamsted will be streamed throughout the week on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel, where you can watch Challenger Tour action, and interviews with rising stars.
