Lee and Kennedy Named Challenger Tour Players of the Month

English duo Joe Lee and Georgina Kennedy have been named the PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month for July following their success.

Lee takes the men’s accolade following his two victories on the PSA Challenger Tour last month, coming at the Stellar New Malden Squash Festival and the Eriswell Challenge at St George’s Hill – both based in England.

Those two victories mark three titles in a row for Lee, who made his return to action following a long injury lay-off.

Lee was unseeded at the Eriswell Challenge at St. George’s Hill event and took out four seeded players en route to victory.

The Englishman came up against No.4 seed Rory Stewart in the final, and found himself behind, before winning the second and third to go 2-1. It went to a decider with the Scotsman fighting back, but Lee was able to secure the win.

Those victories have also seen him rise up 38 places in the rankings in August to now sit at No.92 in the world.

Meanwhile, Kennedy take the women’s award for the second month running as she continues to impress and play above her ranking as she picked up another three titles to add to the two she won in June.

That run has also seen her reach a hugely impressive six finals in a row, with the only blip in her record coming against Belgium’s Nele Gilis in the final of the Squash on Fire Open at the start of July.

The young Englishwoman soon bounced back, however, to take wins at the Stellar New Malden Squash Festival, Arion Homes Off The Wall Squash Open and Berkhamsted Linksap Open.

Those victories mean that Kennedy has won the most titles on the PSA Tour so far in 2021 with five to her name. Thanks to those results, she is also nearing her career-best ranking as she has climbed back to No.74 in the world.
