Hit And Run Sport Challenger: Soares And Adderley Take Wins

The Hit and Run Sport Challenger came to its conclusion on Friday evening in Hove, with Portugal’s Rui Soares and Scotland’s Georgia Adderley victorious.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Challenger 5 level tournament was ran with only domestic entrants in action, and both players were aiming for their second titles in the space of two months.

The Portuguese No.1 was also victorious at the Arion Homes Off the Wall Squash Open in July, and came into this tournament as the top seed. He started with a confident victory over Jack Turney in the first round before downing No.5 seed James Peach in the last eight.

Soares then got the better of Perry Malik in a monster 100-minute encounter in the semi-finals, but that did not deter him, as he then beat another of the family, in Curtis Malik, in the final, to win his second title in three weeks.

Georgia Adderley, fresh off the back of her first Tour victory and an appearance at the PSA World Championships in Chicago, was the No.3 seed for the event, and started with a win over Welshwoman Chloe Foster.

Following wins against England’s Grace Gear, and then compatriot, and the tournament’s top seed, Alison Thomson, in the semis, she made it through to another final. There, she came up against Lucy Beecroft, and after going a game down, she fought back to win the match 3-2 after 74 minutes, securing her second title on Tour.
