Madeira International: El Sirty Defeats Home Hero Soares to Claim Victory

Egypt's World No.67 Moustafa El Sirty is the Madeira International Champion after he defeated Portugal's World No.65 Rui Soares 7-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 in the final.

The event was the first fully international tournament to be held in Europe on the Challenger Tour since prior to the Tour’s suspension in March 2020, with 24 players descending on the Galo Active Health Club.

The two players had only met once before on the PSA Tour, with that match coming last year at the Airport Squash & Fitness XMas Challenger with El Sirty also taking the victory on that occasion.

No.3 seed El Sirty was forced to do things the hard way after finding himself down one game as home hope Soares took the first, 11-7.

The Egyptian soon got back on track though and was clearing riding high in confidence after taking out top seed Mahesh Magaonkar in the last four as he drew back level comfortably in the second.

From then, it was El Sirty who was able to dominate as he closed out in 45 minutes to win his seventh PSA title.
