There are two events on the Challenger Tour this week, with tournaments being held in Islamabad and in Moscow over the coming seven days.
Both events are fully international, with plenty of different nationalities in action across both tournaments. The CAS – Serena Hotels / Combaxx International Squash Championships has both Challenger 30 and 10 level titles on offer, with the Moscow Squash Open holding Challenger 5 level crowns.
CAS – Serena Hotels / Combaxx International Squash Championships
The first event of the week’s action comes from the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad, with the CAS – Serena Hotels / Combaxx International Squash Championships beginning on Monday 11 October.
The men’s tournament is a Challenger 30 level prize, with 12 of the world’s top 100 in action. Home favourite Tayyab Aslam will be the top seed for the event, with Egypt’s Karim El Hammamy and Moustafa El Sirty, Frenchman Auguste Dussourd, and the Hong Kong trio of Max Lee, Henry Leung and Tsz Kwan Lau will be the seeds in the draw.
Switzerland’s Nadia Pfister will head up the women’s draw, which is a Challenger 10 level event. Frenchwoman Marie Stephan, Serbian No.1 Jelena Dutina and the Egyptian trio of Salma Eltayeb, Nour Aboulmakarim and Fayrouz Aboelkheir, all members of the world’s top 100, will aim to challenge for the title.
Moscow Squash Open
The second event of the week on the Challenger Tour is the Moscow Squash Open, which will take place at Squash Club Moscow from Saturday 16 to Tuesday 19 October, and will feature a men’s and women’s draw for Challenger 5 level prizes.
The women’s draw features six different nationalities amongst the top eight seeds, with England’s Lily Taylor as the top seed. She is joined by compatriot Tayla Mounter, along with the German duo of Saskia Beinhard and Aylin Gunsav, along with representatives from Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and of course, host nation Russia.
Hungary’s Farkas Balazs is the top seed for the men’s event, with Colombian No.2 Juan Camilo Vargas as his nearest challenger. Home favourite Vladislav Titov, Czech Republic’s David Zeman and Austria’s Jakob Dirnberger will all be in action, along with players from several other nations.
