The Angers PSA Open is one of five events on European soil this week, with the Challenger 3 level event kicking off on Tuesday 16 November across two venues in the French city.
The tournament, which takes place at both Playground and Wake Up Form Squash in Angers, features 16 male players from around the world, with nations such as Argentina, India and Zimbabwe all represented.
The top eight seeds feature six nationalities, including a French trio of Edwin Clain, Manu Paquemar and Quint Mandil, all aiming to take the title on home soil.
India’s Abhishek Agarwal, Liechtensteini No.1 David Maier, Germany’s Tobias Weggen and England’s Lewis Doughty make up the rest of the top eight seeds, with Spain and Switzerland also represented in the 16-man draw.
The top seed for the Challenger 3 level tournament is Argentinian No.1 Leandro Romiglio, who is appearing for only the second time since prior to the COVID-19 enforced suspension of the Tour.
“Niort was my first tournament since February 2020, but I managed to keep training and been focus in Argentina as much as I could and I used the break to do projects at home that I wasn’t able to before because of travelling,” he explained.
After such a long time away from the Tour, the Argentinian is not thinking about being top seed, or his ranking position, and that he just wants to get playing consistently again.
“To be honest I’m just happy to be back on court and playing the tour, I was missing that feeling, so no pressure, just enjoying doing what I like most,” Romiglio admitted.
“Again at the moment, I don’t think about rankings position, points or anything else. I just want to enjoy and perform well. I know I did my work back home so there is no rush at all.”
As well his individual goals, Romiglio will be the leader of the Argentinian quartet at the WSF Men’s World Team Squash Championships in Kuala Lumpur next month, and he is looking forward to pulling on his nation’s jersey once again.
“I will be leading the Argentinian team in Malaysia, it is going to be my third World Teams event. I’m always happy to represent Argentina at any chance, looking forward to competing and meeting my team mates in less than a month. Let’s see if we can break the top 16!”
The event takes place from Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 in Angers, where Leandro Romiglio is the top seed for the tournament. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
