England's World No.28 Nathan Lake will take the 'Lucky Loser' spot in round two of the Houston Open PSA World Tour Gold event following the withdrawal of No.2 seed Mohamed ElShorbagy.
World No.3 ElShorbagy withdrew after a positive COVID-19 test prior to travelling to the tournament.
As per the PSA rule book, due to the withdrawal coming within an hour of the tournament starting, there were no changes to the draw or to seedings for the event and instead following the end of the first day’s play, a ‘Lucky Loser’ was to be drawn out from the eight players who lose out in the first round.
That player was Lake, who lost out to Egypt's Youssef Soliman in round one, and he will now face USA's Shahjahan Khan in round two, taking ElShorbagy's place in the draw. That match will take place on Thursday January 6.
