Nouran Gohar in action

Gohar Seeded First for February’s Gaynor Cup

The draw for the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup has been released and World No.2 Nouran Gohar has been seeded first for the event, which will take place at the Cincinnati Country Club between February 2-6.

Gohar, from Egypt, will feature in her first event of 2022 and will be looking to close the gap between herself and World No.1 Nour El Sherbini. Gohar opens her campaign against the winner of a mouthwatering round one match between Aifa Azman of Malaysia and Sabrina Sobhy from USA.

No.2 seed Amanda Sobhy – Sabrina’s older sister – is the event’s defending champion and will be determined to replicate her 2020 success. Sobhy is seeded to face World No.5 Sarah-Jane Perry in the semi-finals, which would be a repeat of the 2020 final.

Three of the top eight seeds in the draw come from USA. Alongside No.2 seed Sobhy, Olivia Fiechter and Olivia Clyne will look to entertain the Cincinnati crowd. Fiechter will face either Rachel Arnold or Farida Mohamed in round two. Meanwhile, Clyne will open her tournament campaign against either Ineta Mackevica or Hollie Naughton.

England’s rising star Georgina Kennedy is also included in the draw. The 24-year-old made huge strides on the PSA World Tour in 2021, reaching a career high of World No.17. Kennedy faces Canada’s Nicole Bunyan in round one, with the winner setting up a round two match with No.4 seed Joshna Chinappa, from India.
