There are just four players left at the E.M. Noll Classic, and it will be an all-English finals day at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia on Sunday, with the four remaining English player all winning their semi-final contests.
The shocks continued to be sprung in the men’s event, with both of the lower-ranked players showing their true abilities, as Sam Todd and Charlie Lee made it through to Sunday’s final.
Todd, the men’s No.6 seed, came up against the tournament’s top seed, World No.52 Faraz Khan. Despite Khan being the higher-ranked, and on home soil in the States, the young Englishman won in just 32 minutes, taking victory 3-0.
He is joined in the final by compatriot Charlie Lee, who was unseeded for the tournament, but has now come through three matches where he has beaten higher-ranked opposition. In the semis, he got the better of Hong Kong’s Max Lee, winning in straight games in 28 minutes to book his place in the final.
The women’s draw continued to go with seeding, leading to another all-English battle in the final. Top seed Lucy Turmel made her way through after getting the better of Hong Kong’s No.4 seed Liu Tsz-Ling, but it was not so easy for the World No.25, with the second going all the way to 18-16.
Turmel will now face fellow Englishwoman Jasmine Hutton, the No.2 seed, on Sunday at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia, after the World No.32 defeated Hong Kong’s Tze Lok Ho, also in straight games.
