Bangamata Squash Tournament SF: Top Two Seeds Make Final

After all the shocks and spoils at the Bangamata Squash Tournament – Presented by SA Group this week, the top two seeds safely made their way through to the final at the Chittagong Club in Bangladesh.

The tournament’s top seed, Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei, continued his run through the competition without dropping a game. He had won his three previous matches in the event with ease, and the same could certainly be said of his semi-final contest with Iranian No.1 Alireza Shameli.

Shameli came into this event full of confidence having won twice on home soil at the start of the month, but a convincing 26-minute straight game victory from Elshafei put the Egyptian through to the final of the Challenger 5 level tournament.

He will face India’s Abhishek Agarwal in Tuesday’s final, after the No.2 seed came from behind to defeat one of the tournament’s surprise packages, Pakistani Hamza Khan. The No.9 seed had already gotten the better of two higher-seeded players, and went on to take the first game of their semi-final clash.

However from there, Agarwal was able to assert his dominance, and he won the next two games, dropping just nine points across the pair. The fourth game was much tighter, but the Indian took it 11-9 to move through to the final.

The final of the Bangamata Squash Tournament – Presented by SA Group between Elshafei and Agarwal will be played on Tuesday, March 22.
