The quarter finals of the Life Time Atlanta Open threw up some surprises, with Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio and Guatemala’s Josue Enriquez both taking out members of the Challenger 10 level event’s top four seeds to reach the semi-finals.
Enriquez, the Guatemalan No.1 and World No.131, came up against No.2 seed Christopher Gordon in Friday’s quarter finals, and proceeded to overcome the American in straight games. All three games were tight, but in the end, it was the No.8 seed that was able to come through each of them, winning 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in 45 minutes to advance to the semis.
He will meet Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio in the last four after he got the better of Colombia’s No.4 seed Ronald Palomino. Romiglio, who qualified for the 2021-2022 PSA World Championships after winning the Val de Reuil Normandie earlier this year, continued that great form to beat the Colombian in four, recovering from dropping the second game to regroup and win 3-1 in 55 minutes.
The other semi-final will see top seed Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi take on USA’s Timothy Brownell, after the pair both came through their respective last eight contests in straight games. The Qatari defeated England’s Marie Broekman in three, while Lovejoy overcame the challenger of Egypt’s Seif Shenawy.
The semis of the Life Time Atlanta Open will take place on Saturday, April 23, with the last four going head-to-head for places in the final at the Life Time Athletic Sandy Springs on Sunday.
