Edmonton Squash Club Open SF: Hong and Long To Do Battle

The semi-finals of the Setanta Edmonton Squash Club Open was an all-Hong Kong affair, with Tang Ming Hong and Chung Yat Long overcoming the challenges of compatriots Matthew Lai and Harley Lam.

Long, the No.4 seed, took on No.2 seed Lam in the semi-finals, and he came from two games down to win in five, with a thrilling comeback in Edmonton. He only scored 13 points across the opening two games, but was able to fight back to take both the third and fourth games by an 11-8 scoreline. That form continued, with an 11-5 win in the fifth, to advance to the final.

He will face compatriot Tang Ming Hong, the tournament’s top seed, in Sunday’s final in Edmonton, after the World No.141 overcame the challenge of No.3 seed Matthew Lai. Hong won the first on a tie-break, and after losing the second, he regrouped to then take control once more. Another tie-break win in the fourth saw the top seed make it through to the final after 40 minutes of action.

Hong and Long will meet in the final of the Setanta Edmonton Squash Club Open on Sunday evening, with the pair doing battle for the Challenger 3 level title.
