Joe Lee made it all the way to the top 30 in the first part of his career, and has rebuilt following time away from the game, moving back inside the world’s top 100 in 2021.
The London-born Englishman secured his first PSA World Tour title in January 2011 when he bested Karim Ali Fathi in the final of the Le Sport Open in Wales. Lee claimed his first PSA M15 event win at the Nash Cup in September 2013 and took home the Oregon Open title in February 2014.
Those good results saw him climb into the world’s top 30 for the first time in April 2014 but the early part of 2015 was disappointing for Lee who struggled to make if out of the first round at every event he played at. However, he almost bounced back in style in October at the Norwegian Open where he made it to the final before narrowly losing to Mohamed Reda.
2016 brought around a number of early round exits for England’s Lee at the start of the year before making it all the way to the final in the Swiss Open in May where he narrowly missed out on the lifting the prize to Denmark’s Kristian Frost over five games.
Lee then backed this up with another final appearance, this time at the Victorian Open when he went onto lift the M10 title after Australia’s Rex Hedrick was forced to retire due to a hamstring injury handing Lee his first PSA World Tour title in over two years.
He returned to the Tour with a wildcard at the Channel VAS Championships at St. George’s Hill in 2019, before going on to make his mark on the Challenger Tour once more, following the return of the Tour after its enforced six-month suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a semi-final finish at the Sumner Malik Memorial, the Englishman claimed his first title in five years, winning the Bexley Open. He continued that form to claim victories at the Stellar New Malden Squash Festival and the Eriswell Challenge at St. George’s Hill, making it three successive wins, moving back into the world’s top 100 as a result.
