Cesar Salazar is one of Mexico's leading players and won Gold and Silver at the 2011 Pan American Games.
He earned his first PSA World Tour title at the Zantrex-3 International Squash Championship but had to wait 2 years before he could win his second, the PSA M15 title at the V Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta in May 2012. The tournament was notable for the fact that he defeated his twin brother, Arturo, in the final.
Salazar captured the Manitoba Open in 2013 and the Atlanta Open in 2014 which meant he moved into the world’s top 40 for the first time in November of that year. A semi-final at the Northern Ontario Open meant Salazar was elevated into the top 30 in May 2015 and he nearly celebrated with a victory at the Internacional PSA Sporta later that month, only to be stopped in the final by Omar Mosaad.
September saw Salazar claim a place in the world’s top 25 players for the first time and he made it to the semi-final of the Edmonton Open two months later before being prevented from reaching a 12th PSA World Tour final by Karim Abdel Gawad. Salazar made two more finals in 2016 at the Sporta IX Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta, losing out to Borja Golan and at the Edmonton Open where he fell short against Diego Elias over three games.
In 2017, Salazar went onto claim his biggest ever title when he despatched Omar Abdel Meguid in the Montreal Open final. Salazar had come through a five-game battle with England’s Adrian Waller in the last four but backed it up well to come through in straight games against Meguid to seal his fifth PSA World Tour title.
The Mexican then went on to reach the semi finals of the Sporta Guatemala XI Torneo Internacional later that year, before also winning the Life Time Chicago Open, beating Welshman Joel Makin in the final. He also made the quarter finals of the Canada Cup, and the Sporta Guatemala once more, before finishing runner-up at the Chicago Open in 2018. Salazar made the semis of the Three Rivers Capital Pittsburgh Open in 2019, but lost out to eventual winner Gregoire Marche.
The Mexican reached the last 16 of the El Gouna International and the British Open, before making the semi finals of his final tournament of the season, the Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta in Guatemala.
The Mexican No.1 continued to make the last 16 of big tournaments throughout the 2019-2020 campaign, and also made the quarter-finals at the Bronze level Pittsburgh Open. He went on to reach the last eight at two Silver level tournaments as well, doing so at the Motor City Open and the Troilus Gold Canada Cup.
Following the return of the PSA World Tour after its six-month suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Salazar reached the last 16 of the CIB Egyptian Open, the first Platinum tournament of the 2020-2021 season.
The Mexican only played once more before featuring at the CIB Egyptian Open a year later, where he made the second round. He also featured at the U.S. Open presented by Truist and the Qatar QTerminals Classic, before making the quarters of the Challenger 20 HSC Open - Presented By Assurance Financial. Salazar started 2022 with a last 16 appearance at the Gold level Houston Open.
