Kaitlyn Watts is another young star who made her way into the world’s top 100 in 2021, after returning to the Tour after taking some time away from the game.
In 2017, Watts made the quarter finals of the Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers NZ International Classic in only her third event on Tour, before also making the same stage of the Pacific Toyota Cairns Squash International. The next year, the Kiwi made the final of the Court Tech Women’s PSA Classic, her first final on Tour.
She only featured twice in 2019, making the semi finals of the Inspirenet International Squash Classic, before taking a break from the game, not returning to the Tour for 18 months.
Watts then returned to the Tour in 2021 and went on to win her first three events, her first three wins as a professional. She took victory at the Royal Oak Open, Waikato Open and Panmure Tecnifibre Open, beating compatriot Emma Millar in all three finals. She also made the last eight of the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Open and the Commercial Water Solutions Grange Challenger, moving inside the world’s top 100 for the first time.
