Evan Williams is one of the mainstays of the Tour, having made his debut back in 2008, and he has been a consistent member of the top 100 for last decade or so.
The Kiwi made the semis of the South Island Championships in his first event on Tour, and continued to reach plenty of quarter-finals and semi-finals, before reaching four finals in 2012.
They came at the Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers Manawatu Classic/Central Open, Doubledot Media Henderson Open, Doubledot Media Christchurch Boys High School Open and the Caboolture Open, but he was unable to take victory. That would have to wait until 2015.
Williams final took the win, in what was his seventh final as a pro, at the Squash Waikato Golden Jubilee Open, after defeatingLance Beddoes in the final. He then secured another win soon after, winning the South Australian Open.
2016 was a breakthrough year for the New Zealander, as he claimed three titles, and made a further two finals. He lifted the Devoy Squash & Fitness Open PSA, Squash Waikato Open and the Bendigo International trophies that year, along with making the main draw of the World Championships for the first time in his career.
Through 2017 and 2018, Williams had a run of 18 straight events, where he made at least the quarter-finals of the main draw, including four more runners-up finishes. He finally got back to winning ways in 2019, claiming the ILT & Community Trust NZ Southern PSA Open title.
That came at the start of another great run of form, with the Kiwi making at least the last four in 11 of 12 events. After a lengthy break in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Williams returned to the Tour at the Henderson Rochelle Hobbs Open at the start of 2021, and took the title, battling back from match balls down to defeat Joel Arscott in the final.
