Alfredo Avila is one of the leading Mexican's on the PSA World Tour and turned professional in 2008.
He lifted his first PSA World Tour title in 2010 at the Florida State Open and won his fifth title at the same tournament three years later, following victories at the Rochester ProAm, Atlanta Open and the Proteva Sports Squash Open.
The Mexican had a strong start to 2015 and picked up the Manitoba Open crown in March 2015. His first PSA M50 title came with a stunning victory in August’s Abierto Colombiano de Squash Club El Nogal where he upset four seeded players, including Saurav Ghosal, in the final.
Avila’s victory in Colombia was the catalyst for a meteoric rise in the World Rankings and he soared into the top 40 in the world the following month. Quarter-final finishes at the Bluenose Classic and Edmonton Open helped to consolidate his position there.
Avila followed this up in 2016 with a semi-final finish at the Edmonton Open before going onto win his next tournament at the Salt Lake City Open when he beat Todd Harrity in straight games to capture his first PSA World Tour title in over a year.
After a short barren spell, Avila won three times in 2018, starting with a victory at the NY Squash Hyder Trophy, before winning the Paraguay Open on the Tour de Las Americas. He then won the Nash Cup later that year. A 12th win on Tour followed in 2019, as he won the Saskatoon International Movember Boast.
After not featuring on Tour in 2020, Avila returned to make the semis of the Texas Auto Save Life Time San Antonio 281 International Squash Open in his first outing of 2021. He also made the last eight of the Assurance Financial Austin South Squash Open before featuring at the PSA World Championships for the first time in six years.
Avila secured his 13th Tour title later that year, winning the Torneo Profesional Mexicano de Squash on home soil, before finishing runner-up to compatriot Leonel Cardenas at the 2nd and 3rd Guatemala Open Squash Tournaments at the end of the year.
