Lucas Serme is the younger brother of former four-time major winner Camille Serme, and he is one of several Frenchman inside the top 50 of the World Rankings.
The Frenchman claimed his maiden PSA World Tour title at the Imet Open in 2010 but would have to wait three years for his next one where he took the Open du Gard crown on home-soil. Further triumphs came at the Swiss Open and Rochester ProAm later that year before he lifted his fifth title at the Australian Open with a superb defeat of Kristian Frost Olesen in the showpiece event in March 2014.
The Rotterdam Open followed five months later and he reached the top 50 in the world for the first time in November 2014. He came excruciatingly close to winning a title on two occasions during the first half of 2015 but could only manage back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Open de Paris and Irish Open.
Serme secured a place in the world’s top 40 for the first time in August of that year. In 2016, Serme made amends for his defeat to Ali Farag in the Irish Open final 12 months prior when he collected his seventh PSA World Tour title and the biggest of his career so far as he prevailed over England’s Declan James in a testing four game encounter.
Serme then made a string of quarter finals, including reaching the last eight at the IG Open de Paris, CCI International, Canary Wharf Classic and the Montreal Open. His next appearance in the last four of a tournament came in 2018, where he was defeated by home favourite Tsz Fung Yip in the Malaysian Open. His next tournament saw him reach the last eight of the Open International de Squash de Nantes, but he was beaten by James Willstrop.
The Frenchman reached a career-high of World No.32 in October 2018, thanks to those performances early in the season. He maintained his seeding throughout the year, before reaching the quarter finals of the Wimbledon Club Squash Squared Open. Serme’s first outing of the 2019 campaign saw him reach the final of the Growthpoint S.A. Open in Cape Town.
The Frenchman then reached the quarter-finals of the HKFC PSA International Squash Open, before consistently making it into the second round of major tournaments, including the Men’s World Championship in Qatar in November 2019.
Serme made it to the last 16 of the Troilus Gold Canada Cup, and did so again at the Qatar Classic, reaching the third round of a Platinum level tournament for the first time in his career. His final outing of 2020 saw him reach the final of the PSA Bordeaux Nord, where he lost out to compatriot Victor Crouin.
He started 2021 with two more appearances in finals on home soil, losing out to Crouin again in both the PSA Challenger 10 Le Reve Nancy and the Cognac Open. A string of second round appearances in majors came over the course of the year, along with quarter final results at the Cleveland Skating Club Open and the Malaysian Open Squash Championships. Serme also reached the last four of the Czech Open as well.
