Juan Camilo Vargas has made his way inside the top 100 in the World Rankings in recent years, and has nailed down the Colombian No.2 spot.
He joined the Tour in 2016, and won in just his third tournament. Vargas downed Vincent Droesbeke to claim the Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer Tournament, before reaching the semi-finals of the Tournoi Invitation du Club Sportif MAA a month later.
The Colombian finished as a runner-up on three occasions in 2017, doing so at the BTMI Barbados Open, Kiva Club Open and the Country Club Cochabamba Bolivia Open on the Tour De Las Americas (TDLA).
After a few quarter-final appearances a year later, Vargas took his second title, winning the Wakefield PSA, before claiming two victories in 2019, in a run that saw him reach at least the last eight in nine consecutive events.
That run started at the Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer, the site of his first win on Tour, and including semi-final appearances at the Internazionali D’Italia and the Carter Classic. It culminated in two more wins, both coming on South African soil.
They came at the Johannesburg Open and he Keith Grainger Memorial UCT Squash Open Championships, and he made the breakthrough into the top 100 in the World Rankings on the back of those results.
From the end of 2019 through to the end of 2020, Vargas went on another run of reaching at least the quarter-finals of every event he played in, including a runners-up finish a the Airport Squash & Fitness Xmas Challenger, and semi-final results at the Life Time Atlanta Open and the Assante Wealth Management Carter Classic.
That form continued into the start of 2021, as he won on his first outing of the calendar year, on home soil at the Squash Colombia Challenger. That was followed by a quarter final appearance at the Odense Open, and then to the semis of the Austrian Open.
Vargas went on to win again later in the year, claiming the Moscow Squash Open crown, whilst also reaching the final of the Czech Pro Series V. The Colombian would also make the last four of the Bremer Schlussel and the Czech Pro Series VI that year as well.
