Frenchwoman Camille Serme is one of the leading female players on the PSA World Tour and has seen a sharp rise in her World Ranking since turning professional in 2005.
Serme first rose to prominence when she came runner-up to Raneem El Welily in the final of the 2007 World Junior Championship before she lifted her first Tour title at the Santiago Open in November to be crowned the Young Player of the Year.
She retained the Santiago Open title in 2008 before winning the Creteil International Open, Swiss Open and the Alexandria Open to climb into the world's top 15 by the end of the year.
She broke into the top 10 in the world in 2011 and stormed into the Hong Kong Open final a year later after being seeded 11th for the event where she lost to Nicol David at the final hurdle.
2013 saw the Frenchwoman overcome Laura Massaro in the final of the Monte Carlo Classic which helped her break into the world's top five for the first time.
After a dearth of Tour titles in 2014, Serme started 2015 in fine form and earned her seventh successive French Nationals title. She went on to win the biggest title of her career in May at the British Open where she stunned Laura Massaro in the final. The victory made Serme the first Frenchwoman ever to win the prestigious 'Wimbledon of Squash'.
While Serme couldn’t quite back up her triumph at the British Open with more titles in 2015, she remained consistent and managed back-to-back semi-finals at the China Open and US Open.
February 2016 saw Serme win her first Tour title for nine months at the Cleveland Classic, before further semi-final finishes at the Windy City Open and British Open enabled her to reach the PSA Dubai World Series Finals, where she lost out at the group stage.
Serme began the 2016/17 season strongly with victory at the U.S. Open, where she overcame then-World No.1 Nour El Sherbini.
The Frenchwoman then continued to show her scintillating form with a semi-final appearance at the Carol Weymuller Open – losing out to England’s Alison Waters over five games. However, Serme did go on to clinch victory at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions beating England’s Laura Massaro in the final.
Serme was also able to extract revenge on Waters after her Carol Weymuller defeat when she beat the Englishwoman in the final of the Cleveland Classic, coming from two-games down to win and retain her crown.
After a successful season, which saw her be the only women’s player to lift two World Series title, the Frenchwoman was named Women’s Player of the Year at the 2016/17 PSA Awards.
