An extremely successful player at junior level, Omneya Abdel Kawy lifted the World Junior Championship title at the third attempt in 2003 after previous losses to Nicol David in 1999 and 2001.
A year later, she triumphed at the Vassar College Class of 1932 Open to lift her first Tour title before taking the Apawamis Open in 2005.
Kawy reached her first World Series final in 2009 where she battled through to the Hong Kong Open final only to be defeated by David.
The Egyptian's breakthrough year came in 2010 where she climbed into the world's top five and reached the final of the World Championship, losing to David yet again in the process.
2012 saw her reach the final of the Macau Open, while she had a number of near misses in 2014 as she came runner-up in three Tour events including the prestigious Carol Weymuller Open.
Kawy rounded off the 2014/15 season by eliminating David on the way to the Alexandria International final where she was defeated by compatriot Raneem El Welily.
The next season saw Kawy secure a place in the semi-finals of the next three consecutive World Series events - the US Open, Qatar Classic and Hong Kong Open - losing to the eventual tournament winner on all three occasions.
A succession of quarter-final finishes in the early stages of 2016 meant that Kawy qualified for the season-ending PSA Dubai World Series finals, but the Egyptian lost out in the group stage.
December 2016 saw Kawy celebrate two successive years inside the world’s top 10.
Kawy also made history by becoming the first player to represent her country for a 10th successive time at the 2016 instalment of the WSF Women’s World Team Squash Championship which took place in Paris.
Kawy reached the quarter-final stage of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions where she met Laura Massaro, with the Englishwoman coming out on top.
