Three-time Canadian Nationals title winner Samantha Cornett is the leading Canadian woman on the PSA World Tour.
Cornett claimed an impressive medal haul at the 2011 Pan American Games with gold and silver medals in the team event and singles event, respectively. She retained both the Montreal Open title in 2012 and 2013 and also claimed her first Canadian Nationals Title in May 2013.
Cornett would have to wait for two years before picking up another Tour title but she bounced back in emphatic fashion lifting her first two PSA Challenger 10 crowns at the Delaware Open and the Richmond Open in 2015. The Canadian then went onto reach the semi-finals of the Nash Cup in 2016 where she was defeated by Danielle Letourneau before reaching the final of the Slaight Music Granite Open where she lost out to England’s Millie Tomlinson over four games.
However the next title for Cornett was not far behind as she beat Emilia Soini to win the Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer Tournament later that year. 2017 produced another strong showing for the Canadian as she won the Winnipeg Winter Club Women’s Open on home soil after beating Zeina Mickawy over four games.
She then followed up a fine week in Winnipeg with strong displays at the Windy City Open, with superb victories in the qualification stages against Sarah Cardwell and Coline Aumard to see her reach the main draw. Further on in the year Cornett won the Women’s Squash Week Open after beating Danielle Letourneau over three games as she claimed the title without dropping a single game.
The Nash Cup proved to be a happy place for the Canadian over the next couple of years. Cornett reached the quarters in 2017, before making the final in 2018, where she was beaten by Emily Whitlock. In between, she made the semi finals of the Slaight Music Granite Open, and the quarters of the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup.
She won both the JC Women’s Open and the Alliance Fabricating Ltd. Simon Warder Memorial Prostate Cancer Open in 2018, before making the semi finals of the CSC Delaware Open at the start of 2019.
The Canadian also featured in the semi finals of the Bahl and Gaynor Cincinnati Cup and Queen City Open, before taking the title at the Slaight Music Granite Open. Cornett also made it to the last eight of the Macau Open.
