Julianne Courtice is an English squash player that has pushed into the world’s top 50 in the last couple of years.
Her career began in 2011, a year where she made the quarter finals of the Manor Open, but lost out to compatriot Sarah-Jane Perry. The Englishwoman then had a few barren years, before bouncing back strongly in 2016, where she made her first two finals. Courtice made the final of both the Val de Marne and the London Open, but lost out in both.
Her first PSA Tour title came at the Edinburgh Open in 2017, where she overcame Menna Hamed to take the victory. She then lost out to Hamed in the semis of the Riga Ladies Open two months later. Courtice then took her second title at the Christchurch Vets Ipswich Open, before finishing runner-up to Alexandra Fuller in the Sekisui Open. She also made the last four of the PwC Ladies Open, and the London Open.
The Englishwoman came close to defending her crown in Edinburgh in 2018, but lost out to Millie Tomlinson in the final. After breaking into the top 50 for the first time in her career, she then made three straight quarter final appearances, including the Open International de Squash de Nantes, before making the last eight at the Monte Carlo Classic as well.
Courtice won on home soil at the Courtcare Northern Open in March 2019, before breaking into the top 30 in the World Rankings over the course of the summer. She followed that with a last 16 appearance at the inaugural Manchester Open, and then made it to two finals on the Challenger Tour in 2020. She finished runner-up in both the Edinburgh Sports Club Open and the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week.
The Englishwoman only featured on Tour four times in 2021, staring with a second round appearance at the Platinum level CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open. That was followed with a quarter final result at the Springfield Scottish Squash Open and she ended 2021 by making the final of the London Open, losing out to Georgina Kennedy.
