Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim is already a member of the world’s top 16 at the age of just 21, and he already has a string of wonderful results to his name.
His first appearance on the Tour came in the Qualifying Stages of the World Series level El Gouna International, and just a few tournaments later, he secured his first victory, winning the Open D’Italia in 2017. Ibrahim then won the Grand Sport Armenian M5 Challenger III a year later.
The Egyptian’s career really started to pick up in 2018 and 2019, including a period where he won six titles from just eight events played, and that had a run of four back-to-back titles. He won the Sportwerk Open, CIB Wadi Degla Squash Tournament, Swiss Open and Romanian Open in consecutive appearances on the Tour.
That was followed up with a semi-final appearance at the DHA Cup International Squash Championship, before two more wins. Ibrahim lifted the 13th CNS International Squash Championship and the E.M. Noll Classic, with the latter granting him qualification to the 2019-2020 PSA World Championships in Chicago.
He made the last 32 of the event, and reached the same stage a year later, having qualified through another tournament victory, this time the Growthpoint S.A. Open. His breakthrough on the PSA World Tour came at the 2020 Qatar Classic, as he took out World No.2 Mohamed ElShorbagy to reach the quarter-finals of the Platinum level event, doing so for the first time. With that result, he broke inside the top 40 of the World Rankings.
Ibrahim’s good form continued into 2021, as he continued to reach at least the third round of major tournaments, doing so at the CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open, El Gouna International, PSA World Championships and the Qatar QTerminals Classic. He also reached the last four at the Silver level Manchester Open that year, en route to breaking into the world’s top 16 for the first time in his career.
