One of the most exciting and energetic players on the PSA World Tour, Miguel Angel Rodriguez is a real fan favourite and has the distinction of being the first South American ever to make the top 10 in the world rankings.
‘The Colombian Cannonball’ has particularly excelled in his home country, winning the Colombian Open on three occasions in 2008, 2010 and 2014 and finishing runner up in the competition in 2006 and again six years later in 2012.
In September 2013, Rodriguez became the highest-ranked South American of all time, exceeding Fernando Usandizaga in a year that also saw him emerge victorious at the Bluenose Classic and achieve a bronze medal finish at the World Games in Cali.
2014 was a successful year for the Colombian. After an impressive semi-final finish at the Canary Wharf Open, he captured the Rancho Open title along with the Colombian Open in August.
The diminutive star broke into the top ten world rankings in January 2015 and made history again that month when he became the first ever South American to reach the semi-finals of a PSA World Series event at the Tournament of Champions before winning the biggest title of his career to date, the 2015 Motor City Open, just one week later.
Rodriguez became a real crowd-favourite during the 2014/15 season and he was rewarded for his stunning form by breaching the world's top five for the first time.
His form took a bit of a dip during the opening stages of the 2015/16 campaign but he did become the first ever South American to reach the quarter-finals of the World Championship in November 2015.
Semi-Final finishes at the Windy City Open and El Gouna International towards the end of 2015/16 helped Rodriguez qualify for the season-ending PSA Dubai World Series Finals, where he lost out in the last four to Gregory Gaultier.
The early months of the 2016/17 season were disastrous for Rodriguez as he fell to first round defeats in his first four tournaments, before a third round finish at the 2016 PSA Men’s World Championship halted his run of straight losses.
The Colombian began January 2017 ranked at No.14 in the World Rankings - nine places lower than he began the previous year.
