Overview

Indian No.1 Saurav Ghosal secured his first PSA World Tour title since 2012 with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Marwan Elshorbagy in the final of the Kolkata International JSW Indian Squash Circuit, PSA M35 event.

The World No.15 didn’t drop a game throughout the tournament and earned his spot in the final after a superb triumph over second seed Stephen Coppinger in the previous round. Elshorbagy meanwhile came through a five-game-thriller against Rex Hedrick in the quarter-final before dispatching Chris Simpson in the last four.

Cheered on by a partizan home crowd, Ghosal started the match by injecting plenty of pace into proceedings which Elshorbagy struggled to keep up with. A couple of strokes went in Ghosal’s favour in the latter stages of the first game and the 29-year-old rose to a 11-7 victory.

Elshorbagy grew frustrated the longer the match wore on as he started to hit a number of unforced errors to hand Ghosal a further advantage in the second and third games.

Home favourite Ghosal kept up his relentless energy to complete an 11-7, 11-2, 11-7 triumph and lift his fifth career PSA World Tour title and his first PSA M35 crown.
